This peaty malt won the top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards 2010, and also at the Malt Maniacs Awards in 2010, for the Best Peated Malt.
Longrow is the peated whisky brand from Springbank distillery. This Longrow CV (curriculum vitae) is made of 3 vintages, matured in 4 different oak types: 6 years old whisky from bourbon casks, 10 years old from port and rum casks, and 14 years old from sherry casks. This was blended to showcase the different Longrow characters.
Tasting Notes:
NOSE : Very creamy, vanilla custard. The smoke develops gradually, like a slow burning log fire, never overpowering but always reassuring. Marshmallows toasted on a campfire - crisp on the outside and sticky sweet in the middle!
PALATE : Incredibly well balanced - rich and creamy with a slight medicinal hint. The smoke is always present, washing over the palate in waves, like the soft billows of smoke from the kiln.
FINISH : The gentle smoke lingers and lingers leaving you yearning for more.
